Two Atomic Bombs In The Same Country And They Call That Justified? Revision

->In August 1945,during the final stage of the Second World War, the United States dropped an atomic bomb on Japan,in the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.A uranium gun-type atomic bomb called “Little Boy” was dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945 ,followed by a plutonium implosion-type bomb (Fat Man) on the city of Nagasaki on August 9, 1945.It ended up killing at least 150,000 people in Hiroshima and 75,000 in Nagasaki, which is why it remains to be the only nuclear weapon used in our history.I think that the dropping of the atomic bomb was not even close to being justified for several reasons. One, they killed thousands of innocent of civilians, two it caused to much damage that they couldn’t fully recover from and three we didn’t learn much from it.

->The amount of destruction that was done is something that the Japanese can never and will never recover from. The causes of mortality among infants and young children was indifferent. “Around 2,400 American Naval personnel were killed in Pearl Harbor, and around 1,200 were injured. How is it justified, the bombing and killing of over 300,000 people, mainly CIVILIANS, due to petty revenge. Big deal, they killed 2,000 odd people; those people were military personnel. The Japanese killed were mainly innocent civilians. Worse than the Nazis, at least they targeted potential threatening points.”[1] How is it justified by killing a huge amount of people that are CIVILIANS,that are innocent who just happened to die because they lived in a country they called their home. If the bomb was dropped on the enemies as in the military/armies then maybe my opinion would be a lot different. However the difference between a civilian and a solider are obviously different.A solider is risking his or her life to ensure the safety of ones country or people, signing some kind of contract, knowing that they could possibly die or get severely injured and I respect each and every single one of them for that. But a civilian is the total opposite they are not risking their lives , they want to be in a safe and secure place away from all the conflict. If you think otherwise then maybe it is justified. “After the dead had been buried and the wounded had been sent to whatever medical facilities were available, the task of surveying and clearing the vast fields of rubble and debris began. This process took the better part of 2 years to complete.”[2] Additionally they had to spend millions to get a bare minimum of what was once home. “12,442,000 yen in 1955 and 25,682,000 yen in 1956 to cover A-bomb victims medical expenses”[3] It took 2 YEARS to cover just on medical expenses because their own hospitals and facilities were destroyed.Which leads me to my next point, the amount of damage caused in the country.

->There were damages done not only to the land, but their were effects to their health. The two cities before the attack were both different in their shapes and sizes of the land so it resulted in great difference in the damages.Hiroshima was all on low, flat ground, and was roughly circular in shape. Nagasaki however had cut up hills and mountains, with no regularity to it’s shape like Hiroshima.Due to that fact,Hiroshima’s damage wasn’t as much as Nagasaki. “All Japanese homes were seriously damaged up to 6,500 feet in Hiroshima, and to 8,000 feet in Nagasaki. Most Japanese homes were damaged up to 8,000 feet in Hiroshima and 10,500 feet in Nagasaki.”[4] Even though thousands of people died, many had actually survived based on how far they were to the proximity of where the bomb was dropped.About 40,000 people had survived, you would think that each and every one of them would be happy to be alive but in this case, they would rather be dead. Each and every single one of them, man, women, and child had what the researchers/doctors called “Injury Phases.” Injury phases were different conditions of injury that would change over a certain period of time. The first two weeks,” mainly burns from rays and flames, and wounds (trauma) from blast and falling structures.”[5] The 3rd week through the 8th week,”symptoms of damages by radioactive rays, e.g., loss of hair, anemia, loss of white cells, bleeding, diarrhea.”[5] Finally, the 3rd and 4th months,”some improvement in burn, trauma, and even radiation injuries.”[5] Even after almost a century later, their are still many aftereffects that still remain in the country such as: “leukemia,
A-bomb cataracts, and cancers of thyroid, breast, lungs, salivary glands, birth defects, including mental retardation, and fears of birth defects in their children, plus, of course, the disfiguring keloid scars.” [6]

->Even after all that happened,it seemed like the world didn’t learn a lesson at all.You would think that at that point in time in history the world would recognize it as a way to learn and to know about it so that we don’t repeat history all over again.Sadly, all it’s done is give an idea to the rest of the world,” hey if they have one, I want one to.” Now,about 9 countries own nuclear weapons that doesn’t just wipe a country of the map but ones that could destroy the whole world 10 times over. “Russia:7,500,USA:7,100,France:300,China:250,United Kingdom:225, Pakistan:120, India:110,Israel:80 and North Korea:10.”[7] Each and every single one of them has at least 10 nuclear weapons ,which is considered to much. “Nine countries in the world possess a total of 16,300 nuclear weapons.”[8] On top of that, they literally invented a “law” that said,”In short: Whoever shoots first, dies second.”[9]  It created what they call today the Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD). Which meant that, “a U.S. doctrine of reciprocal deterrence resting on the U.S. and Soviet Union each being able to inflict unacceptable damage on the other in retaliation for a nuclear attack.”[10]

->The atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki will always be apart of our history and will forever change the world we live in now.Two cities that were wiped off the face of the earth, with thousands of men, women and children with it. There were people that still have the scars to bare showing that they survived and they will never forget it, the month of August 1945.It caused damage that can never fully be recovered, and damage that had caused a new city to arise and create itself from what was once cities full of rich mountains and social activity.Even though many places around the world didn’t really learn from it some did, and the ones that did will be the ones to show the world can be a better place without atomic bombs. To teach that this was not justified.

Quotes Rule The World:Top 3 Picks

I have chosen this particular post for evaluation because I think that quotes need to be recognized as something we should all know about in our lives because words are truly powerful and they can change your life in just a couple of words.Which is also the reason why I am inspired to write about it.Using excerpts from research, writing about essays, reading responses,  entry journals, and other reading, listening and viewing strategies has helped in my growth.I posted a page about quotes recently, and since im writing it again I am going to add more explanations as to what it means ,why I chose it and a connection to it.The similarity would be that the quotes are the same.

“No matter how dreary and gray our homes are, we people of flesh and blood would rather live there than in any other country, be it ever so beautiful. There is no place like home.”

-L. Frank Baum, The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz [1]

I think this quote means that the idea of a home is not based on how it looks from the outside or the inside, but it’s stating that there’s is no place like being at home.People always talk about places in the world,in how they wished they lived their but at the same time they don’t realise that they already live in a place that is to die for;your home.Everybody loves that “homey” feeling you get, that after a long day or a trip to the other side of the world, the minute you come back you feel fuzzy and just want to go home and jump into your bed and cuddle with your sheets or to go home and have a nice glass of coffee. That feeling only happens at home. The reason why I chose it was because I connected to it when I was making my short story in the beginning of the year called,”Finding Home In A Cold War.”I talk about a man and a women who try to find home after running away from a warzone, showing that finding a home is what kept them going and didn’t stop till they could get one that had that “homey” feeling.Knowing that truly there is no place like home.

As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn’t supposed to ever let us down, probably will. You’ll have your heart broken and you’ll break others’ hearts. You’ll fight with your best friend or maybe even fall in love with them, and you’ll cry because time is flying by. So take too many pictures, laugh too much, forgive freely, and love like you’ve never been hurt. Life comes with no guarantees, no time outs, no second chances. you just have to live life to the fullest, tell someone what they mean to you and tell someone off, speak out, dance in the pouring rain, hold someone’s hand, comfort a friend, fall asleep watching the sun come up, stay up late, be a flirt, and smile until your face hurts. Don’t be afraid to take chances or fall in love and most of all, live in the moment because every second you spend angry or upset is a second of happiness you can never get back.

Author~Unknown [1]

I think what the quote means is that we need to live everyday like it’s out last moment on earth and just living life to it’s fullest. It shows that those tiny little moments can actually mean so much, that they could and are the greatest impacts in life. There are memories that you love, ones that you regret, but that is living life to it’s fullest.Saying that every single moment should be one you cherish for your whole entire life because when that moment passes by there’s no way of getting it back.I chose this as my second quote because it has been one that I have kept with myself for several years now, and is a personal reminder that I need to take advantage of the life I have, which leads me to my connecting point. That I have had both good and bad moments where I either didn’t want it to end and moments that I wanted to disappear, but even through it all I knew that it was apart of life and that without all these different moments,I wouldn’t be able to experience life at it’s fullest.

“But she wasn’t around, and that’s the thing when your parents die, you feel like instead of going into every fight with backup, you are going into every fight alone.”
Mitch Albom, For One More Day[1]

I think the quote means that when a parent or parents dies you don’t have someone that used to always side with you, that you would go into an argument with another family member and they would be their to help even if it was for a lie, they always had your back.I chose this quote because it’s one that hits home. When I read the quote it just became a lot more clear that no matter what age, having your parents is something you should always cherish because that bond with your parents is nothing you can ever get back once their gone.My connection to it would be that on many occasions my mom would always stick up for me just so that I could win an argument, and when she did we always won.Sadly one day they won’t be there forever and the quote just shows just how much you should cherish those little moments with them.

“A great quote is very similar to a great poem. A great poem can encapsulate a large web of emotions in a few terse sentences. A good poem is just the visible tip of a iceberg.  Reader is forced to imagine the rest of the mass that rests under the surface.
Similarly, a good quote encapsulates an idea or a thought. It clarifies an idea in a particularly enlightening way. A great quote just is quite similarly just a tip of the iceberg. It gives reader the liberty to imagine the real mass that lies under the surface below.”[2]

Top 3:Things That I Want To Do Before I Die(TOTALLY WORTH IT)

I have chosen this particular post for evaluation for the reason that I could fully explain the reason “why?” I want to do this particular thing before I die.I have thought about this for a while and it’s something I plan on actually doing someday,so I thought I would write about it.I feel like it reflects my growth, both as a reader/researcher and as a writer because as a reader I know what I want to look for when reading for example interesting points, to fully understand what their is about the topic as a researcher and to answer the questions as a writer.Recently, I did a post about “30 things that I want to do before I die” and because I am writing it again,I am adding an explanation of why I want to do it.Things that I will do similar would be adding a image of what it is so that the viewers could fully understand what it is and a definition for what it is.

#1 Skydiving: “The sport of jumping from an aircraft and performing acrobatic maneuvers in the air during free fall before landing by parachute.”[1]

The top five reason why I would do it:

  1. It’s the most fun you can have with your clothes on
  2. Your Bucket List – cross it off my list GO SKYDIVING
  3. They call it Human flight(Flying!)
  4. Beauty and peacefulness
  5. Experiencing something people would call you crazy for

[2]:Experience Skydiving

Skydiving has been something I have been thinking of for years and im not going to stop thinking about it even if I do it.It something I have been hoping to be able to cross off my bucket list, its one of my top priorities.I feel like the reason why I like it so much is the thrill and excitement I get from it,probably why I love rollercoasters so much.Like I said it’s the most fun someone can have with so much clothing on.Skydiving is meant to have a lot of equipment unless you’re a professional or just want to die.Even if it has a lot of equipment its actually considered light.Plain and simple flying is something every man or women wants to experience, flying with friends and random strangers is pretty cool, you can do anything for the duration of getting to the point where you need to take your parachute out like flying on your belly, back flying, sit flying and more even if its your first time you learn quickly.People might call me crazy for saying its peaceful but many people have said that yes it is nerve racking but when you take that leap you could see why it’s so peaceful being high up in the sky thousands of feet above civilization and just taking a look.I love doing things crazy, not only does it make me different but I can say I did something others can’t do and I feel like thats a true accomplishment.

#2:Bungee Jumping: “The sport of leaping from a height while secured by a long nylon-cased rubber band from the ankles.”[1]

There are different ways to jump:

  1. Body Harness(Most common)
  2. Leg Harness(Most common)
  3. Arm Harness(this could easily lead to dislocated shoulders etc. It is not recommended)

Different types of jumps:

  • Swallow dive(By far is the best way:take a  leap away from the platform, arms stretched out wide like a bird landing and jump
  • Back dive(slightly harder:you must throw yourself into it so that you are pointing to the ground and not just on your back in the sky
  • Thrown(just get a group of people to throw you off)

[3]: Bungee Jumping

If I were to go bungee jumping I would get a leg harness for the reason that the less equipment you have makes you feel more light but I feel like I would start with a body harness for the reason that it would be my first time.If I did it more than once, then I would most likely use the leg harness.Being thrown off would be interesting but for the first time I would swallow dive seeing since its easier and more common as a starter. Some people have jumped off towers, cliffs, bridges etc. which I would like to do each and every single different version. However for my first time I would prefer to jump off a bridge into a lake thanks to all the photos of how cool it looks. Why should people go bungee jumping? Not only does it give you something you can tell your friends and family about but it also considered an extreme sport, therefore it gives you an adrenalin rush, which is the best feeling ever. It’s a great stress reliever, if you feel like you’re having a hard time in your life at the moment, pack your bags and find somewhere to go even if you’re alone it would still be worth it.If your friends a control freak take them out so they have something they can’t control. There could be a list of reasons why you should go but the main reason is that you will enjoy it and never forget it.

#3:Do something crazy: “Mad,insane,out of one’s mind”[1]

Crazy things to do:[4]

  1. Get in a taxi, point to a random car,and shout,” Follow that car!”
  2. Go camping with friends in an empty lot
  3. Jump in a freezing cold lake(with clothes)
  4. Play hide n’seek in a huge place like the forest at dawn or night
  5. Go into the store, ask what year it is,after someone answers, run out of the store screaming,”IT WORKED!”

[5]: Conquering my fear

Even though I would love to do all these, one thing in particular I would want to do is a “shark cage,” it’s not what you think like getting into a cage full of sharks,no it’s where you are put into a cage that is securely locked and put into the ocean with sharks around you.I know it sounds crazy, but I would call it conquering a fear, sharks are scary and seeing one close up when it’s not killing is totally awesome! It doesn’t sound like im scared but I feel like im they type of person that makes it sound like im okay with it….till I actually do it.Shark cages are extremely dangerous it’s like risking your life, there have been break-ins but luckily they make it out safe for the reason that the co-workers are ready for situations like these.Even though it is dangerous, conquering a fear means it is going to get dangerous, so im going to take that chance.

Doing a bucket list is actually hard not just because you have to set it up or look for the location to where you’re going, but you have to have the time in your life to just get up and go somewhere and on top of that, sadly not everything is free and on many occasions it does cost money. However by completing my bucket list especially these top 3 picked ones it would make me the happiest person in the world because I can say I completed another task in life and gained something from it. TOTALLY WORTH IT.

Please provide a rating for YOUR overall contributions to discussions [1(poor) – 5 (excellent)]

I give myself a 4/5.This is because I commented on a good majority of the blog posts that were given.I answered any possible question that they had asked,I answered the question thoroughly and percise with a lengthy paragaraph, which described my thoughts on their questions. The posts that I commented on were ones that interested me,i find that if I am not then its harder to answer the questions.I did learn alot from many of the blog posts and could put that knowledge into commenting on other blog posts.I always tried to find the good in a blog post but didnt hasitate to disagree with something, which would end up making the conversation  more interseting. If their was anything I wanted to clarify or know more about I asked questions.Sadly, on many occasions the blogger didnt comment back and did affect the amount of replies but I knew that I would have replied back to those comments. For those reasons,I chose to give myself a 4/5

1. Is there some aspect of the topic, results, conclusions, or concepts for which you gained a deeper understanding of through the blog discussion? Was there some aspect of the posts you explored that you had not thought of or that you ‘learned’ about from the discussion? In other words, what aspect of the post was clarified or illuminated as a result of the blog discussion?

There were two blog posts in particular that I felt helped me understand more about the topic at hand.Even though I knew a little about the topic, their blog posts had more information, facts and led to me getting a better understand of what it was about. For example Subhan.A post about, “Sweatshops and Modern Day Slavery” I learned what the conditions each and every individual go through, why it is still functioning and what exact companies are supplied by these people. The second blog was,”Sinkholes” by Esther.Y, I knew what a sinkhole was but I didn’t know how it was made, which Esther made it more easier to understand based on her diagram and description, and I learned that famous art around the world are based on these sinkholes which I found was really cool.

2. Were there aspects of the discussions that led to more confusion for you compared to when you read the blog post alone? Was the confusion resolved through discussion? Please explain (make specific reference to the blogs involved direct quotations may be appropriate reference the author)

Yes,there was one blog post that got me more confused because it seemed to me that the info or facts was off as if it was more opinion than actual facts which made it harder on the blog post because they couldn’t justify what they were saying, and the reasoning behind it wasn’t enough to change my opinion on the subject.Jamie.P blog,”Is Organic Farming Really Better?” She states, “there would be no room for natural forests” I step in and say that this is actually untrue because in most places of the world you are not allowed to farm and must be in a specific location to do so and no matter what farming needs to take away land to start its own land.Sadly the blogger didn’t comment so I couldn’t start a discussion.

3. Evaluate your role in the Blogger of the Week discussions, in particular please answer the following two questions: What did you do that was effective at contributing to the discussion(s)? Be specific (adding screenshots of your contributing or copying to your blog may be appropriate). What areas do you need improvement in?

I was an effective contributor to the discussions for the reason that I answered all of the questions that were asked, and when if someone thought I should add something or go over something I would take it into consideration and would apply it if it needed to be.I could have improved by adding some info/facts from what I know, for example images, videos, links etc.

4. Can you think of a contribution from another student that stood out in your mind that helped move the discussion along or help the class to move to a deeper understanding of the material? What did the student do? (no need to mention names, just describe what the students did or said).

One student that stood out to me that helped move the discussion along and would give more of a deeper understand of the material by sharing links or videos on the topic at hand.It helped in getting many of the discussions to start up,it would get both the readers and the blogger to contribute. Not only did the student answer the questions, say something positive and what you could work on but was not afraid to say something if they didn’t agree.

5. Do you have any recommendations to the class as a whole to improve class discussions? How are discussions different in an online space versus those held face to face? How are they similar?

Yes I do have a specific recommendations to the class as a whole. To improve class discussions you can’t just agree on everything because it makes it look like the blog post it perfect and there’s always something to work on, I feel like the students need to not be afraid of asking those questions if they don’t agree, even if its the worst thing possible as long as you can justify it,then so be it.Discussion are very different in an online space versus those held face to face which is what Clarissa D. talks about in her blog post,”Online vs Offline” that many people are different when it comes to both sides, for example you might be afraid to say something to their face but when you behind a screen suddenly you feel more confident.I have had a first person perspective on this, when I play video games you hear all these people start fights and use vulgar words but you know for a fact that it’s for the reason that know one is around to do something about it.They are similar in a way that they both bring up a emotion in the person depending on how passionate they are about the topic.

6. What are your overall thoughts of the Blogger of the Week assignment? Do you have any suggestions for me moving forward to either: a) improve the assignment; or b) revise the structure, delivery, or scheduling of the assignment itself? Be specific as your opinions will be very helpful for me as I plan for future classes.

My overall thought of the Blogger of the Week assignment is that it was totally worth it,I learned a lot not just from my own but others, you get more of a deeper understand based on what the topic is about and I could leave the class knowing that I know more then I did when I walked in.I have one suggestion in particular that I noticed from my blog post to another is that I have almost no comments compared to the ones in the beginning of the year.I feel like that is because its towards the end of the year when many students don’t even have time to reply anymore and because of it would effect the mark of the blogger when it comes to discussions. So I feel like you could either have more people going in the same week or instead of it lasting for a week it could last for a couple of days.

Celebrities: Adored By The Masses(Blogger Of The Week)

What exactly is the definition of a celebrity you may ask? The two common definitions of the word celebrity is,”a famous person,” or “state of being well known.”[1] Almost every single day we are surrounded by images or videos or other information about the everyday life of a “celebrity”.It’s almost impossible to go a day without hearing something about them,as if our life is surrounded by their well being, what they do,what they eat, what they wear etc. Don’t get me wrong it’s because of them that businesses make money off them based on all the gossip, their entertainment, or making fun of them thanks to all the paparazzi and leads to lots of people to look up to them. But is that a reason to let them off the leash for committing a crime or getting an easy way out? They get too much money then they actually should get even though they’re like you and I?

Celebrities get special treatment

It seems that there are two types of standards of the justice system,on one side you have celebs who get the easy way out and then there are rest of us “norms” that have to fight their way out. For some reason when celebs are in situations suddenly the idea of equal justice is not applied.

[2] Michael Vick Convicted

It has been a proven fact that celebs get special treatment and when I say that I don’t mean a ticket to the spa,but special treatment at court or when they get in trouble. For example a man named Michael Vick a football player was convicted in 2007 for the following.

A dog-fighting ring in both federal court and the state court of his native Virginia. Despite years of denying that he was in any way involved in such activities, a search warrant executed in 2007 found a bevy of evidence against Vick at one of his properties in rural Virginia. Included in his dog fighting ring of horror was:

Rape Stand: An area where the female dog is tied down and left to be brutalized/attacked/raped by a string of male dogs.
Electrocution: Electrocuting the dogs ‘for fun and entertainment’ once they failed to perform.
Drowning: Slow drowning of dogs.[3]

[4] Lindsay Lohan convicted

He was convicted for 23 months in federal prison but his sentence went short because of “good behavior” and even after all that Vick was still allowed to go back to his career as if nothing happened. There was one celebrity in particular that I am pretty sure everyone is aware of, the famous Lindsay Lohan. While this woman has been jailed so many times that you would think the sentence would be harsh, but it never is. In 2007, Lohan was convicted of driving under the influence and sentenced to probation.

While serving her probation she pleaded no contest, which meant she didn’t refute the charges, but didn’t admit guilt either. Despite the fact that she later allegedly stole a necklace worth $2,000 in 2011, which is considered grand theft, she still was only put on probation.

Over the years she has been jailed on numerous occasions for violations that include drug and alcohol abuse, and even served a period of house arrest in an attempt to change her ways, only to be sent back to jail again.[5]

Do celebrities get away with crime more than ordinary people? [20]

If Vick wasn’t a celebrity he would have gotten convicted for the penalty  which is, “three years in jail with a $250,000 fine,”[6] just for having an illegal dog fight. Keep in mind on several occasions he had done this but still got less time and went back to his life as a football player, acting as if nothing happened .If Lindsay Lohan was a non-celebrity just for alcohol-related offences, which she has violated several times, should get more  punishment based on her violations.”Penalties for your third DUI will be harsher. Most states impose mandatory prison sentences for three-time drunk drivers.”[7] Another thing to keep in mind is that these rules are by the American states.A lot of celebrities seem to be getting away with just a slap on the wrist, but the average person would get days or years in either jail or prison, isn’t it unfair that someone gets the easy way out of something because they have the title of a celebrity, and now suddenly with that title you can get away with everything. When are we going to draw the line and go against it?, because if it doesn’t change celebs will get used to the idea of getting away with anything and it will get worse right now might be abuse and illegal uses but sooner or later it could be murder or rape. A celebrity is like you and I but it just so happens that there talents are better than mine that’s it! To be more specific ,celebrities in Canada and America are still under the law they live in that country so why is our rights suddenly different because of their title,in America they cherish the idea of “equality under the law.” For a Canadian we also cherish the idea of our “equality Rights” in the charter of rights and freedoms. So if we are all equal why is it that celebs still get treated like they have power when all they have is their title and money.

Hierarchical structure in hollywood:A-list to D-list

Celebs earn more money than other celebs because of the “list” they fit into. The structure is based on how famous you are in the world.Who knows you?,who wants to know you? and how good are you? An example could be Jennifer Lawrence, who is famous for her lead role in the movie series of Hunger Games. All around the world people recognize her so thats a check.Who wants to know her? I mean I sure do,even celebs want to know her! How good are you? She’s on the A-list you only get their if you’re the best.Which leads me to my next point in observing the difference between a A-list to D-list.( Not showing every celebrity)

A-List Celebs:[21]

  • Angelina Jolie
  • Beyonce
  • Tom Cruise
  • Jennifer Lawrence
  • Kim Kardashian(Don’t ask)
  • Brad Pitt
  • Jennifer Aniston
  • Johnny Depp
  • Oprah Winfrey
  • Ellen DeGeneres

D-list Celebs:[22]

  1. Carrot Top(née Scott Thompson)
  2. Frankie Muniz
  3. Randy Quaid
  4. Verne Troyer
  5. Vanilla Ice
  6. Haylie Duff
  7. David Hasselhoff
  8. Flava Flav
  9. Bret Michaels
  10. Rob Schneider

Celebrities are overpaid:

[8]Celebs being overpaid

[9] Celebs know that they get being overpaid

A celebrity makes too much money beyond belief.A-list celebrities make millions just for playing in one movie for example Brad Pitt.”Initial fees for roles in movies can hover around $10,000,000.” Even after all their medical expenses, charitable contributions, mortgage etc, they still have millions of dollars just to spend on themselves.

Number soon starts to dwindle: $300,000 for boat expenses; $300,000 for children’s expenses; $40,000 for medical expenses; $25,000 for charitable contributions; $10,000 for gifts; $486,400 for mortgage. After adding everything up, you come to a total expense level of $11,437,360 and a net income of $4,474,640 — plenty leftover to be living large. (Time to buy that second caviar statue!)[10]

Imagine it making millions just for one movie that takes about a year to finish and celebrities don’t just finish a movie and stop working even though they could literally do it and it would have been enough for the next 20-30 years. But instead they keep doing it and end up making more the 100 million dollars. So why is a person that goes in front of a screen just to entertain make more than “average” human beings that save lives and risk their lives? Why should a person who is good at kicking a ball, make more money than a doctor who helps to save lives everyday and never expects anything in return, a fireman or police officer that risks their lives day in and day out and only makes about 50,000-60,000 a year. An argument to that would be they affect the lives of millions of people in the world.I find that really hard to believe because just recently during the Fifa World Cup 2014 semifinals game between Brazil and Germany, after the game ended with a humiliating defeat of 7-1 not only did people get angry ,sad and left with disappointment and embarrassment, a Nepali girl commits suicide from the loss.

[11]girl commits suicide after humiliating loss FWC 2014

Kathmandu, July 9 (IANS) A diehard 15-year-old fan of Brazil in Nepal committed suicide on Wednesday after the South American nation’s humiliating defeat at the hands of Germany in the 2014 FIFA World Cup semifinal.According to Nepal Police, Pragya Thapa, 15, from Sunsari district in east Nepal, hanged herself  after some of her friends teased her that her team had suffered a humiliating loss to Germany.[12]

It seems that the argument is now clearly  useless to use. Committing suicide after a game is just one case that happened because of celebrities im not saying they caused it but that’s what happens when someone idolizes a celebrity too much,on top of that their have been many cases where a young girl who idolizes a female celebrity and would start feeling insecure or started trying to change themselves because of what celebs say or do to make themselves “look good”.It ends up with making them insecure if they don’t “achieve” that look.

Another argument that I have recognized is, “Consider all the money they donate to charity,” in many cases celebs actually have to give a good amount of their money to charity just for a publicity act,to get attention, awards and so forth. They get their faces everywhere and everybody talks about them when they “give”,they get headlines like “30 most generous celebrities, celebs who give back,” it sounds to me that means more pictures and cameras rolling on you, which means more interviews and leads to you getting more money that “you gave back”.

[13] Getting paid to tweet

Celebrities get paid for the ridiculous things ever that you will ever hear.Fun fact CELEBS GET PAID TO TWEET! “You could get paid as much as $10,000 for one tweet! But before you flood the Twitter stream with 50 blasts and wait for your $500K to roll in, we should clarify that you probably can’t make that kind of money in 140 characters or less. One can, if one is wicked famous, has hundreds of thousands of followers, and finds an advertiser to sponsor a tweet.”[14] It is unbelievable that they make that much money.

[15] Soldiers cant even get a decent place to sleep

Money for one tweet, just imagine that I wouldn’t even have to work anymore. While these people make thousands of dollars for sitting on their bottoms, on their phones and punching a couple of buttons(at least 140 words), a man is fighting for his life can’t get paid because the country’s economy is dropping for the reason that all the money has to be put in for weapons and artillery, while the celebs get favorited by 1.5k people and while another man becomes a number on a rock.

Celebs also get paid to go places for example Coachella. Coachella is a music festival the is held in Indio,Calif. “According to an anonymous source, a variety of bold-faced names would be receiving pay-outs in exchange for showing up — for example, that Lea Michele would get $20,000 from Lacoste to wear the brand while at the festival, and that Aaron Paul would be willing to strike a deal for $15,000.”[16] Also they even get paid to wear designer clothing! “A-lister Gwyneth Paltrow allegedly scored $500,000 to wear Louis Vuitton jewels on the same night. By 2012, Paltrow’s fee apparently doubled; Vanity Fair has said that that Chinese jewellery designer Anna Hu paid the actress $1 million to wear a single diamond cuff to that year’s Oscars.[17] Hey if they’re going to pay that much for someone to walk and wear what they want sign me up! The money never stops,im surprised if they started paying them for just walking on this planet.

Why do we care: Aren’t they like you and I?

We all know that we live in a world that is full of people that are different its what makes each and every one of us unique, but does that mean others should be treated better then you because they have something you supposedly don’t have ,that others get to get out of a difficult situation or get more benefits than others because you have certain title, that suddenly laws and responsibilities don’t apply to you? By letting celebs get away with certain things we are making it look like what they do is okay, that they can do whatever they want without any consequences, that just because they have this talent suddenly we give them anything including money and attention that they don’t deserve. For having a talent that almost anyone can do these days with our sources. In our generation we have come up with a way to make the worst singer ever sound like a million bucks,I have a talent do you see me getting thousands of dollars, allowed to break laws and still get attention I don’t deserve? No you don’t because I don’t have that title, the title of a “celebrity.”

What can we do to change this?

For one not buying their magazines that are full of lies and gossip, not watching their scripted reality TV shows,by taking more action against celebs being released when they shouldn’t be by protesting or by boycotting from watching them because without fans there nothing. For example their was a case where fans were paying way too much for tickets to watch celebs and on many situations people joined an action to make that change, like the,”#FootballWithoutFansIsNothing ticket campaign.”

For too long supporters have been exploited with their loyalty taken for granted. Ticket prices have risen far beyond inflation and this has already seen supporters priced out of their game.

In the FA’s 150th year we find that the ethos of the game in this country does not represent the same values with which the game was formed. Clubs tell us they need more money to be able to compete, that they need to charge more for tickets because other clubs do. The Premier League tell us that it is the clubs’ choice and that they are powerless in changing anything. All parties hide behind excuses expecting supporters to just accept them and begrudgingly continue to pay the high ticket prices to pay high paid footballers further extortionate amounts.

Supporters from different clubs are uniting to make a stand so that clubs cannot use the line they charge more so we have to, or that the Premier League cannot just say well attendances are good so everyone must be happy

These actions are just the start. Supporters from all clubs are now saying Enough is Enough and that Football Without Fans is Nothing.[18]

In a situation like this Celebrities need fans or they would lose everything, their money, their attention and possibly their jobs.So we can actually make a difference if we truly wanted to.We have to stand up and say something if we don’t then we let them go on with their lives without any worry to what they do and we make it easier for them to get away with things they shouldn’t because we can’t let celebrities get treated better than non-celebrities.

Now I would like to hear from you:

  1. What’s your thoughts on this topic?
  2. Do we pay too much attention to celebrities and too little to other things?
  3. Is there anything I should add or have missed?
  4. Name one celebrity that you think actually deserves the benefits they have

Is It Justice:Death Penalty?

One of the most argumentative controversial issue in the justice system worldwide today is the death penalty also know as the capital punishment. What exactly is the death penalty? The death penalty is a form of punishment used by the government or monarchy, that executes a person he or she after being found guilty of his or her crime(s). The death penalty has been used for longer than we possibly realize, the first ever death penalty was dated back in the fourteenth Century B.C,“in the Code of King Hammaurabi of Babylon, which codified the death penalty for 25 different crimes.”Said by Death Penalty Information Center.Executions since then were really creative ,the imagination for the death penalty is quite crazy from eaten by a lion in a stadium in front of hundreds to hangings, burnings, decapitations, shootings ,lethal injections, live burial, drowning ,stone to death ,electric chair and so much more. You would think something like this would be a time of sorrow WRONG, sometimes the execution would bring joy from viewers or spectators and would draw a crowd.Does someone truly deserve a death in that way? I hope the answer would be its not even close, why? because its barbaric no one deserves to die in the most painful and embarrassing way no matter what you did because there’s always another way instead of taking another life.Is It Justice?

In a group of three Caitlyn ,Luke and I have made a T-Chart,causal model, our plan of action and a template of action based on our finding based on our topic, note that we are against it.

Plan Of Action

The death penalty will never bring justice, there’s so many words to describe why but the one that stands out the most is inhuman.Don’t we live in a society where we always find justice for everyone no matter what,if we are going to end up killing a human being for doing something bad then we might as well just execute everyone, that’s what it really is if you execute someone that had killed someone but you go and kill them ,shouldn’t you get executed as well.“Oh look, this man just murdered someone! I’m going to show everyone that killing is wrong by MURDERING HIM! Ah yes, genius indeed.”Said by Anonymous, “It won’t cost as much” really it doesn’t?,well Death Penalty Information Center says otherwise,“cases without the death penalty cost $740,000, while cases where the death penalty is sought cost $1.26 million. Maintaining each death row prisoner costs taxpayers $90,000 more per year than a prisoner in general population.”That’s just on one day so why will you take a life of someone for that much and teach the world nothing but another way to kill or put as much money in and see that society will still take care of you just so that you can change your ways and become a better person and show the world that their is something called forgiveness.Prison is a way to get people back on their feet ,to be that “better person” to help them realize the difference between the bad and good and the right from wrong. Can a prison sentence change a person for the better? “Yes i’m proof I truly am a believer since I’ve been to prison for counterfeiting and had learned my lesson very well. That if I got out and continued ,prison would become a revolving door. This is the hardest way to learn what bad choices can do but for some of us the only way we learn.”Said by Anonymous

“I have never heard a murderer say they thought about the death penalty as consequence of their actions prior to committing their crimes.”
-Gregory Ruff, police lieutenant in Kansas

EDMONTON – After 13 years behind bars, mostly in notorious Guantanamo Bay, Omar Khadr, 28, was released Thursday afternoon from prison, promising to “prove to Canadians that I am better than what they thought of me.

“I will show them that I’m a good person. All I ask is to give me a chance, see me as a person and make an informed decision on who they think I am,” said Khadr, dressed in blue jeans, white sneakers and a black T-shirt as he stood outside the down town Law Courts Building.

The remarkable thing is that some people get convicted even though they are not guilty.

Authors of the study say that their “conservative estimate of the proportion of erroneous convictions, is 4.1 percent, or approximately twice the number actually exonerated and set free from death row. This could mean that approximately 120 of the roughly 3,000 inmates on death row in America might not be guilty, while additional scores of wrongfully convicted inmates are serving life in prison after their death sentences were reduced over technical legal errors.” by David Von Drehle More Innocent People on Death Row Than Estimated: Study.

That’s a lot of innocent people being sent to death for being guilty,is justice still served?,That is called murder for killing someone without being guilty for any crimes whatsoever ,what happens to the father ,mother, wife husband, daughter or son of the victim? a “sorry I just executed someone you loved for no reason…bye.”It just caused a family to lose someone they love someone they couldn’t say goodbye to ,an innocent life to be taken way with no remorse and possibly a generation of human beings from happening. If its about making someone suffer then prison is still the way to go.What if it was a mistake, what if you were there at there at the wrong place the wrong time, what if you learned from it,doesn’t everybody deserve a chance? In prison you suffer more than you possibly think, its a long process of suffering, for almost 24 hours a day you are in a small jail cell with a small thin bunk bed, with a toilet right next to you and possibly a room-mate that could strangle you,ask something they don’t care unless its life threatening ,food tastes horrible, people are animals you take cold showers in front of others, there’s a list of horrible things and to think you have to do that sometimes for your whole entire life.

If you still think its right think about it this way, from a different perspective. From yours, let’s say in this scenario you had killed someone,do you want to have the chance of redeeming yourself or would you want to instantly be sentenced for death, when maybe all you needed was a situation that bad to make you realize what you did wrong.

Plan of action:Activism From Teenagers

In an age of digital communication, civil activism is vital for the youth to participate in for various reasons. In the new millennium where social media is used on daily and opinions and thoughts of individuals are readily available, the youth have access to new information everyday; this information is where their own thoughts are developed. The youths participation in any forms of civil activism, such as protests in the forms of sit in and rallies, will highly influence those that will come after them. The youth are the future generation of this world and they are the key to changing the world we live in today.I think that because the youth can make the most difference, more than an adult in all honestly because we strive on own opinions,we don’t stop till we achieve our goal and we fight till we loose. For example Malala Yousafzai, she is known for her human advocacy for education and women, the girl who stood up for education. She was just one teenager, someone who fought for what she believed in even when she was shot, targeted and threatened by many she sill achieved her goal and ended up earning a Nobel Peace Prize. That was just one teenager.

Plan Of Action:Template

1 Create twitter and Facebook page supporting the mentally ill being put to death after committing crime To raise awareness for those who cannot help themselves due to mental illnesses and explain why they should not face the death penalty Not being able to work the website, no internet
2 Create a post about the mentally ill that are up for the death penalty to educate people and explain what the account is for and the importance So people have an understanding of the case and how it is unfair to kill somebody when they are mentally ill and physically do not know any better and that there is better ways to handle it such as sending them to rehabilitation or a mental hospital No people follow or like the account so they will not see the post, no one will take it seriously, just scroll over it and don’t even take the time to read it
3 Hold a protest and choose a date on the website To show the government that people care and that people have human rights and they should not be killed for committing a crime No one shows up, no one cares
4 Make wrist bracelets Count how many people wear their bracelet on the protest day to get a feel for how many people care No one wears it, people forget them or lose them
5 Call news cast to the protest To get the case out farther than just people on social network, so people who watch the news can get involved too News cast doesn’t come, no one sees the story on the news
6 Take it to the government So they know that people care and so they can realize what they are doing is wrong Government refuses to see them, or they see them and shut the matter down
7 Wait to see if it makes a difference That is all that’s left to do, just let things play out Nothing happens

Main Reasons Why We Should Take Away The Death Penalty:

  1. You cant take it back: Once its done ,its irreversible the person is gone and cant come back.
  2. It doesn’t allow criminals to learn from their mistakes or learn their lesson.
  3. Hypocritical (killing someone for killing someone)
  4. There is no benefit to killing a human being
  5. What if you were wrongly convicted what happens to the convict still out there?

For Death Penalty   Against Death Penalty
  • A form of punishment of a person that committed a major crime
  • More room in Jail
  • Stops some people from committing crimes(Gives a warning to others)
  • Closure for Victims
  • Don’t have to think of the criminal coming in your life
  • Technology helps prove guilty
  • Justice is more taken care of
  • Gives prosecutors another bargaining  chip in the plea bargain process which is essential in cutting costs in an overcrowded court system
  • You could be wrongly accused
  • Not learning a lesson
  • Considered murder
  • Hypocritical
  • Cruel punishments( Electric  Chair, lethal injection)
  • There are other more efficient ways to handle a punishment
  • Gives out the wrong message
  • Put to death-criminal can not undo the crimes they have committed
  • Race and place determine who dies
  • what if the one to be sentenced to death was mentally ill
  • Job description-“I Kill People”
  • Out dated, old fashioned
  • Brings shame and ridicule against the country
  • Why kill people, to show killing is wrong
  • What about Human Rights?
  • Does d.p actually deter?

Causal Model:

Death Penalty:Stakeholders:

Primary Stakeholder(Directly affected) Secondary Stakeholder(Affected but not directly) Key Stakeholder(Neutral-either or neither)
·         Family of both the accused and the defendant·         The victim or criminal themselves·         Lawyers(More time it takes more money they get)·          Religious groups(contribute a role in choosing if its within human rights to choose who dies or lives)·         Politicians(can become leaders and make people believe in their opinions, they can manipulate a sensitive object to get what they want you to think) ·         Friends of both side ,the victim and the criminal·         Community(drawing attention and end up with higher crime rates)·         Jury members(making those decisions)·         Taxpayers(having the role of paying for the cost of what the sentence is either to jail, prison or death ·         Government(Shows the opinion on d.p ,makes them stand out more)·         Economy(the money spent to put someone in prison or to death)·         Newscasts/reporters(report the news ,causes more viewers to watch and make money)·         Country/Capital(stops people from coming to the area because of how afraid they are)

The Death Penalty or Capital Punishment is righteously wrong,it is just a way of legal murder. The government/monarchy should have no right an any way to end someones life or say when it should end.Has history not taught us anything?,that something so outrageous like this never benefits and only causes damage to both sides. No one will benefit if one is gone and make you make another leave what’s that going to do?,something like this is not supposed to cause damage ,its supposed to teach about the damage done and to educate others that something like the d.p cant happen ever again. To not repeat history.Overall the death penalty is not justice, its just us. “To take a life when a life has been lost is revenge, not justice.”
-Desmond Tutu.

Perspective Of Stakeholders:

There are three types of stakeholder with three different perspectives. One stakeholder is called a “primary stakeholder;people or groups that stand to be directly affected positively or negatively by an effort, policy or organization etc, sometimes on both sides of the equation.”For example a lawyer would be a direct stakeholder with the death penalty.Next,is the secondary stakeholder,” people or groups that stand to be indirectly affected positively or negatively by an effect.” For example tax payers would be a indirect stakeholder with the death penalty Third, there is what you call a “key stakeholder people who belonging either or neither of the first groups positive or negative effect or effort.”For example news cast/reporters would be a form of both or neither direct or indirect stakeholders with the death penalty.A primary stakeholder with the topic of the death penalty could be a lawyer because during capital cases they are much longer, involve more planning/preparation and the more their is the more money they get.A secondary stakeholder with the topic would could be taxpayers, who have to pay for all the expenses that have to do with the capital punishment and are indirectly effected.A key stakeholder in this topic could be a news cast/reporters,the reason is that they make money of people watching the possible debates or stories of the death penalty which could go either or neither way depending on who the viewer is.

Romeo and Juliet Act 3 Song Analysis

Romeo and Juliet Act 3 is where the story starts to heat up,more things start to happen and its getting worse. It starts of with a sword fight between two of our “favorite” houses,SPOILER ALERT someone dies, then there’s the feelings of grief, guilt, sadness, suddenly some suicidal thoughts, but then it goes back to our favourite main characters Romeo and Juliet on their marriage and possibly their last day together forever…..Anyways my top 2 songs that I have chosen that I think best fit in for act 3 of Romeo and Juliet are, #1 “Daylight” by Maroon 5 and #2 Man Down by Rihanna.

#1 “Daylight” by Maroon 5:

I chose “Daylight” by Maroon 5 as my number 1 because I think it would have been a perfect song just after their “afterglow” after they consummate  their marriage and before Romeo is banished.

“And when the daylight comes I’ll have to go
But tonight I’m gonna hold you so close
Cause in the daylight we’ll be on our own
But tonight I need to hold you so close.”

Here I am staring at your perfection
In my arms, so beautiful
The sky is getting bright, the stars are burning out
Somebody slow it down

“Marriage night”R&J[1]

The verses reflects upon the story perfectly because In Act 3 scene 3, (even though shakespeare did not show Romeo and Juliet’s wedding night, since they would all have been arrested or punished for putting on a lewd entertainment) they don’t want to accept the fact that when that sun is out, they must say goodbye and part but for the night they just want to stay close, hold each other, not to worry about the day ahead and just care about what’s going on around them.Implying their in their own world now till the sun rises. They both want the time to stop to just enjoy and savor the moment as much as they can before the part. Also making more doe-eyes at each other.

Romeo ends up getting banished out of Verona ,Italy for killing tybalt after challenging him to a fight because he had killed mercutio,he was so blinded by his anger he didn’t know the outcome.Once he’s declared to banishment he doesn’t feel like living because, “There is no world for me outside the walls of Verona, except purgatory, torture, and hell itself. So to be banished from Verona is like being banished from the world, and being banished from the world is death.”(Act 3,sc 3).That’s why he’s savoring his last moments with Juliet because he’s never really going to see her again.”It’s torture, not mercy. Heaven is here because Juliet lives here.”(Act 3,sc 3)”

#2 Man Down by Rihanna:

“I didn’t mean to end his life, I know it wasn’t right
I can’t even sleep at night, can’t get it off my mind
I need to get out of sight, fore I end up behind bars.”

“So I’m bout to leave town, aye uh,

Cause I didn’t mean to hurt him”

“Romeo kills Tybalt” R&J[2]

The song itself is about ,“a song about a girl who committed a murder that she regrets and is completely remorseful about it.”This is a great song for this act because its exactly what Romeo went through, he ended up killing tybalt and ended up feeling the guilt after he did it. In the play Tybalt wants to duel Romeo and when Romeo refuses Tybalt and Mercutio fight. Romeo end up stepping in and because of it ,it leads to tybalt shoving his sword through his arm and into Mercutio and killing him. When Mercutio dies Romeo feels guilty and in his rage (and for revenge) he kills Tybalt. In the Video the girl ends up leaving the location to get away from all of it and the possible punishments ,and that’s exactly what Romeo does he ends up running away from the fight itself ,while Prince Escalus punishes him with banishment after warning him already that if anything happens this would be the result or possible death punishment.

Romeo and Juliet Act 2 Song Analysis

Act 2 ,of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is perhaps one of the most famous love scenes in all of drama ,which is why love songs would be totally appropriate. Here are some of my choices of songs that I would think would fit perfectly for the particular scene.

#1 On the list “Love Story” by Taylor Swift:

I think that my number one choice that best represents act 2 of Romeo and Juliet would be “Love Story” by Taylor Swift. The song is perfect for the scene because not only does it hit the theme, but mentions the lovers plus the whole entire play revolves mostly around love. The roles of the video make it easier to recognize that it would be perfect for the scene because if you watched the video you can see the Taylor swift is playing the role of Juliet and the other man playing the role of Romeo. The video itself was made to be related to William Shakespeare’s famous story of Romeo and Juliet. The lyrics first start of with the verse saying ,”We were both young when I first saw you.” The verse itself is definitely related to the story because we as in the viewers are told that the age of Romeo and Juliet are about 14 years old.Stating that they are both in their young teenage years. So

“I sneak out to the garden to see you.
We keep quiet ’cause we’re dead if they knew
So close your eyes… escape this town for a little while.
Oh, oh.”

Romeo and Juliet, “Balcony scene”[1]

The verse “I sneak out to the garden to see you” from the love song, reflects back to the story when Juliet is on the balcony during Act 2 Scene 2 when she is looking off into the night sky, while Romeo sneaks into the garden bushes to Juliet.”We keep quiet ’cause we’re dead if they knew”, the verse represents best in the story when Juliet tries to hide from others so no one will see and tell her parents when she’s with Romeo and Juliet.”So close your eyes… escape this town for a little while.Oh, oh.”The line symbolizes that they should keep quiet from others and not worry about all the troubles when their together.

“Marry me, Juliet, you’ll never have to be alone.
I love you, and that’s all I really know.
I talked to your dad – go pick out a white dress
It’s a love story, baby, just say, “Yes”.

Romeo and Juliet ,”Marriage scene”[2]

The lyrics are best shown when Romeo proposes to Juliet and they get married in Act 2 scene 6.At the chapel, when romeo arrives and confesses his new love for Juliet, and they should meet at the chapel to get married.Juliet and Romeo both appear at the church to be married by Friar Lawrence and sealing their future without the care of their family and friends.

#2 on the list “Check Yes Juliet” by We The Kings:

I chose “check yes juliet” by We The Kings as my second choice because not only is the song based on the story of Romeo and Juliet but the lyrics or verses have a lot to do with the story itself and have so much in common. For example in the chorus its says,

“I’ll be waiting
Wishing, wanting
Yours for the taking.
Just sneak out
And don’t tell a soul goodbye.”

Throughout the act you can see that Romeo and Juliet don’t tell anybody that will jeopardize their relationship, and only certain people can know about it such as the nurse. They would wait for each other anywhere just so they can talk in privacy just like the balcony scene and they would both sneak out just to see each other for example in act 2 sc.2.Also Romeo would even go to the extreme of leaving his family and friends behind just to go see her and so that he wont get interrogated by them for example in act 2 sc.1 when Romeo escapes from Mercutio and Benvolio and ends up meeting with Juliet. The last verse”And don’t tell a soul goodbye” you can reflect that upon the story when throughout the act they keep secrets about whats going on about their love and explain that they “can’t tell a soul” for example when Romeo talks to Friar lawrence about the marriage proposal and that he should be the one to help them make the marriage official in act 2 sc.2 and 5.

“We’re flying through the night
We’re flying through the night
Way up high,
The view from here is getting better with
You by my side.”

[5]:”Making doe eyes at eachother”

The lyrics are best represented in the story, when Romeo and Juliet are on a “high” of their love.Stating that because they have each other by their sides they can do anything and everything and nothing could possibly get in the way if they’re together.Like when they exchange words of love during the act they act like their blinded by everything around them and are only focused on each other.”But, soft! what light through yonder window breaks? It is the east, and Juliet is the sun!” (2.2.2-3). It means that Romeo already loves Juliet, his words of adoration and love has compared Juliet to the sunrise.Stating that the sunrise will be a sign of her appearance.Throughout the story he compares Juliet to the “light” he finds her love to be full lightness to be bright ,sunny and warm.

Even though their was so many choices out there in my opinion I think these two songs were the best to choose from.
